Self-driving Driving is a fantastic way to explore South Africa and gives you the freedom to stop wherever you choose and to travel at your own pace. Driving is on the left hand side and the majority of roads are wide and in good condition, with junctions and visitor attractions well signposted and frequent fuel stations and stops with restaurants. Cape Town, the Winelands & the Garden Route This is one of the most popular self-driving routes in South Africa, taking in some of the country’s most rewarding attractions. Starting in cosmopolitan Cape Town, you could cruise along the beachfront in a convertible, then head into the majestic mountains of the Winelands. Further east you’ll hit the dramatic coastal scenery of the Garden Route.

Kruger National Park One of the world’s most renowned wildlife viewing areas, Kruger National Park is crossed by a network of public roads giving visitors a thrilling opportunity to drive independently across the grand landscapes in search of wildlife. KwaZulu Natal The high peaks and dramatic scenery of the Drakensberg Mountains make it another region ideal for self-driving. Winding roads lead around rugged mountain passes to historic battlefields where the British, Boers and Zulus once fought. The Elephant Coast north of Durban is home to subtropical beaches and less-visited wildlife areas.
